The AER clip – what is it, when is it useful, and how is it installed? 🤓

Posted by Lukas Ebert on

When working with the quick-build rail (SBS) and generally with the substructure for wall and ceiling paneling with profiled wood, questions often arise:

  • Which clip is the right one?

  • How is it installed correctly?

  • What are the differences between the fastening systems?

The answer to many of these questions is the AER clip – the Swiss Army knife of clips! With its flexible rear-mounted installation, it's perfect for the beginning, end, and revision of tongue-and-groove panels.

What is the AER clip?

The AER clip stands for start, end, and revision and is a flexible fastening solution for tongue-and-groove panels. Unlike other clips, the AER clip is screwed onto the panel from behind, making it particularly versatile. This allows it to be used regardless of whether a tongue or groove is present at the beginning or end.

When does the AER clip make sense?

At the beginning and end of a row of panels – The clip is mounted flexibly, regardless of whether a tongue or groove is present.
If a panel has been sawn to size – The AER clip can also be attached to cut edges.
For groove-groove profiles – Conventional clips often do not work here, the AER clip is the best alternative.
If later revisions or readjustments are necessary – the AER clip remains accessible from the rear.

Our recommendation:

For quick and reliable installation, we recommend the drywall rail set (SBS set) with rail and AER clips for the beginning and end.

How is the AER clip installed?

Step 1: Preparing the panel

  1. Cut the last panel to the desired length.

  2. Check if there is a tongue or groove .

  3. If necessary, smooth the cut edge to ensure a clean fit.

Step 2: Attach the AER clip

  1. Screw the AER clip onto the panel from the back.

  2. If the panel has been sawn, precise marking and measuring are required.

Step 3: Insert panel

  1. Insert the panel with the tongue into the groove of the previous panel.

  2. If the panel ends with a groove, the start&end clip can be used alternatively.

Step 4: Fix the panel

  1. Press the panel with the mounted AER clip onto the SBS rail .

  2. Check: The panel must fit tightly and fit seamlessly.

Step 5: Further assembly

  • The remaining panels are mounted with rotary clips .

  • For groove-groove profiles, we recommend the AER clip first, followed by the joint rotary clips .

  • If the end has a groove, the start&end clip can be used.

When should which clip be used?

If a panel starts with a tongue-and-groove profile, the AER clip offers a secure and flexible solution. If the panel has a groove at the end, the start-and-end clip is suitable, as it is particularly quick and easy to install. If the panel has been cut to size, the AER clip is the best choice, as it works independently of the tongue and groove profile and ensures a secure connection.

Twist clips are used for the regular installation of the remaining panels, while joint twist clips are specifically designed for connections between individual panels. This selection of clips ensures secure, flexible, and visually perfect fastening – regardless of the structural conditions or individual modifications.
